july.

July thoughts and goals:

Eating / Cleaner (i.e. more fruits/vegetables & less processed foods/sugars).
Drinking / Plenty of H2O. I'm terrible at this when I'm working.
Practicing / Kindness and selflessness.
Mastering / The art of oncology nursing.
Learning / To grow a vegetable garden.
Trying / To buy less unnecessary stuff. I already have what I need.
Playing / NPR on the radio.
Finishing / The final touches on our home. Painting our bathroom is next on my list.
Reading / Game of Thrones & Call the Midwife series.
Remembering / "Change your thoughts, and you can change your world." -N.V. Peale
Wearing / A simplified wardrobe.
Cooking / On the grill. Clean up is so easy when grilling.
Working / At my new job and getting used to the routine.
Traveling / To nearby cities. I'm thinking a day trip to Savannah, GA would be nice.
Wanting / Less. Because less is more, right?

our wedding.

Our wedding pictures are finally in and I wanted to share a few pictures with you. We got married on a beautiful day in May at a plantation on John's Island, SC. We kept the whole affair pretty simple and I'm so glad we did. It totally felt like "us." The lovely photos are from our awesome photographer, Cana McDonald.

Happy Monday!

Life is good. Happy June friends.

hello may.

This May is going to be filled with good things. These good things include moving back to Charleston, a bachelorette weekend with close friends, a break from work, time with family and friends, marrying my best friend, and honeymooning in Mexico. I'm pretty sure this might be the best month ever.

Happy May friends.

lately.

This past weekend Sean and I traveled to Charleston to see my little brother get married. The wedding was lovely and I am so happy for my brother and his new wife! I love that my family is growing as we all get married. It makes our family gatherings much more fun! Needless to say, we had a wonderful time with family in our favorite city.

While in Charleston, we decided to treat our trip like a mini vacation and stayed in a rental downtown. We found this quaint and perfectly decorated little Freedman cottage on airbnbIt even had a fiddle leaf fig tree. I was in love. Highly recommend this spot for a relaxing stay.

Happy Monday friends.

around here.

I thought I would share how things are coming along here around here. As some of you may know, we just relocated to Nashville about a month ago from North Carolina. Seeing as I have been without a job after moving (I start my new job next week!) I've had ample time to get settled in. Lucky for us, the floor plan of our rental is similar to our old home so our furniture has fit in nicely. There is some more work to do before our place feels "complete" but I'm happy with how things have come together.

decorating: the dining room.

After finding a house to rent in Nashville I have been mentally decorating each of the rooms. Our new home is a little dated but with some fresh paint and a few simple fixes it will be perfect! We plan on keeping our current furniture (which we love) but I would like to change up the decor a bit with some new accessories.

First up: the dining room. This room will be pretty simple to update with a coat of paint and a new light fixture. I love this simple and modern light fixture by Schoolhouse Electric. It will look great paired  with our rustic table (similar style shown) and Eames-style chairs. For artwork- this print by Max Wanger would be beautiful in the space (its extra perfect since it is of Tulum- where me and Sean got engaged!). And to decorate the tabletop- a collection of succulents in geo vases.

There have been some big changes going on around here lately...

-The BF got a new job in Nashville, TN.  We move at the end of the month!

-A couple weeks ago the BF surprised me with an amazing trip to Tulum, Mexico.

-While in Mexico, we got engaged!

-And to top it all off- we found our dream vintage Eames-style lounge chair on craigslist.

Life is good.  Happy Monday.

weekend.

The BF and I are off to Nashville tomorrow to explore the city for a few days!  I am so excited.  We have been doing our homework and have a bunch of places and restaurants we want to check out. The city guides by Design*Sponge and Elise of Pennyweight were particularly helpful in finding fun spots to visit.  We also found this cozy little cottage on airbnb to stay at during our trip!  It is going to be a great weekend :)

Here are some things that I have enjoyed this week:

Some pretty home inspiration over at Minna May.
A mid-century inspired brass lamp from UO.
Simple fashion tips from a J.Crew stylist.
Looking forward to trying this recipe for penne + brussel sprouts.

Happy weekend friends.

hibernating.

It is a cold one here in Charlotte today.  So, I have decided to go into hibernation for the day.  I've been curled up in my PJs watching episodes of Parenthood and catching up on blogs with hot chocolate in hand.  It has been quite nice.

Here are a few things I have been enjoying this week:

This studio visit (above) with textile designer Helen Dealtry.
My new headboard from Amazon has arrived and it is beautiful.  And is also quite a steal.
Lovely interior inspiration over at Sweet Thing.
An easy tutorial to achieve curling iron waves.  It is my new favorite way to style my hair.

2013.

2013.  Really?  I am still so amazed how fast time seems to fly by.  The past year was amazing yet filled with challenges.  I moved to Charlotte from Charleston to be with the BF who had relocated for his job.  It was definitely one of the best decisions I have ever made.  Our relationship has grown leaps and bounds.  However, moving away from my hometown, friends, family, and job was harder than I had anticipated.  It proved to be one of the biggest challenges in my life so far.

After some hard months, I have finally adjusted to life in a new city.  And I learned that things take time- rarely does everything fall into place when you want it to.  As more life changes are on the horizon, I hope I can remember this and take change with a little more ease this year.

So here's to 2013!  I hope to keep life simple and do more of what makes me happy: take walks, eat fresh foods, send letters, phone friends, spend time with family, blog, read books, travel, and appreciate life more.

Happy New Year friends.
