around here.

I thought I would share how things are coming along here around here. As some of you may know, we just relocated to Nashville about a month ago from North Carolina. Seeing as I have been without a job after moving (I start my new job next week!) I've had ample time to get settled in. Lucky for us, the floor plan of our rental is similar to our old home so our furniture has fit in nicely. There is some more work to do before our place feels "complete" but I'm happy with how things have come together.

decorating: gallery wall.

When we moved into our new home I knew I wanted a gallery wall in the living room. Yesterday, I finally got around to working on this particular project. I used the same steps to hang everything as in our last home (step by step instructions here). It turned out really great! I especially love the antlers in the mix. And this might sound silly but I think the gallery wall even makes our sofa look a bit more put together!

three things.

I've been thinking of some little things to spruce up our new bathroom. The bathroom has dated 1950s light pink and seafoam green tiles and could use a little help to modernize it a bit. These neutral + vintage inspired accessories would be perfect to update the space.

decorating: the dining room.

After finding a house to rent in Nashville I have been mentally decorating each of the rooms. Our new home is a little dated but with some fresh paint and a few simple fixes it will be perfect! We plan on keeping our current furniture (which we love) but I would like to change up the decor a bit with some new accessories.

First up: the dining room. This room will be pretty simple to update with a coat of paint and a new light fixture. I love this simple and modern light fixture by Schoolhouse Electric. It will look great paired  with our rustic table (similar style shown) and Eames-style chairs. For artwork- this print by Max Wanger would be beautiful in the space (its extra perfect since it is of Tulum- where me and Sean got engaged!). And to decorate the tabletop- a collection of succulents in geo vases.

snapshots.

Happy Monday!  I can't believe it is the last week of September.  I hope everyone had a lovely weekend.  I spent my weekend working so I really enjoyed sleeping in this morning :)

Here are a few snapshots I took around my apartment today.  Hope you enjoy!

Dresser:  One of my favorite pieces of furniture is this family heirloom.  I have always loved this dresser and I know it will be a part of my home for years to come.

Glass jar:  I got a pair of these little glass jars on sale at a local design store, Elizabeth Stuart Design.  I love them as candle holders and I plan on using them as flower vases too.

Louie:  Looking dapper as usual.

Nightstand + Chair:   I really like how this little corner of my bedroom has come together.  The table was rescued from my family's attic and the chair was a thrift store find that I made over.

block printed.

While at the farmer's market at Marion Square this weekend, I came across Stacey Bradley's booth selling her PerlaAnne prints.  I have been a fan of her hand block printing since I saw her work featured in Charleston Home Magazine.   I was so excited to come across her booth and actually see the prints in person.  They are beautiful.  Stacey Bradley was so very kind and explained the hand block printing process and one of her hand carved blocks.   After looking through every single print (thank you Sean for being so patient!), I purchased a limited edition feathers print and meadow flowers print.  I am so very happy to add these prints to my little home.

vintage finds.

As I have recently posted, I have been working to make my bookshelves look "decorated."  I recently added two new vintage finds to my bookshelves. While I was in Charlotte a couple weekends ago, I got to spend some time with my lovely friend Allyson.  Since we both love antique/thrift shopping, we went to the Sleepy Poet Antique Mall.  We shopped for a long time (the place is HUGE!) and both came out with a few items.  I bought a porcelain glove mold and an antler.  I have added both items to my bookshelves and I love them. I feel like I am so close now to having these shelves properly "decorated."

Happy Monday!

a little paint.

After a little paint, I have a new look to the built-in shelves in my apartment.  Those shelves have been driving me crazy for quite some time.  I feel much better about them with the new color.  Although, I still have a ways to go on "decorating" the shelves.  Creating a pretty bookshelf is not easy!  I like them much better already though.

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!  Happy Tuesday!

monday.

I finally got dining room chairs!  I can't believe it has taken me six months to bite the bullet on these chairs.  I have posted about my love for the Eames side chairs before and I am so happy to have some in my own home.  They are not the real deal but they are a very quality reproduction.  I purchased them through DesignerSeating on Amazon.  I was very pleased with my transaction with them.  I ordered the chairs on Monday and they arrived at my doorstep on Thursday!

I am so excited to have a place to sit and eat dinner.  The BF is coming in town tonight.  I think I am going to make us some pasta.  I can't wait to enjoy a nice sit down dinner (i.e. not eating on the couch) with him :)

Happy Monday!

so happy.

I bought the Jill Rosenwald rug I had been thinking about!  I actually got it on a flash sale site called Joss and Main.  It was about $185 less than the regular retail price!  I am so happy with it!  I chose the 5x8 rug in gray.  I was a little worried about the gray (I was also considering the sky blue color) but it looks great.  I think the blue would have been a little too feminine.  I also think the gray will be easier to transition into other spaces if I want to change things up in the future.  Any who, I love it.

Happy Tuesday!

EAT.

Check out my new zinc letters from Anthropologie! I first came across these zinc letters at me oh my!  It was such a cute idea that I decided I had to have some just like it!  Even though I was a total copy cat, I am so happy with these zinc letters in my own kitchen!

a work in progress.

A little while back I mentioned how I purchased a chiang mai pillow on Etsy.  Well, my pillow finally came in and I love it.  I was a little very hesitant to spend so much money on a little pillow but I am definitely happy I did.  I feel like things are starting to come together in my bedroom.  In addition to my new pillow, I added one of my revamped barrel chairs to the space.  I think the next purchase I will make for the bedroom is an area rug to anchor the room.  I am thinking this rug will be perfect:

Whatcha think?

On another note, I had a wonderful weekend with my friends, family, and the BF.  All around a GREAT weekend but I didn't take a single picture.  How terrible. Oh well...next time.  Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend.  Happy Monday!

little updates.

Over the past week, I have made some small changes to my apartment.  I decided to run around and take pictures of these little updates to share!  Here are the details:

1.  I rearranged my bookshelves above my built-in desk (sorry for the glare in the picture...my photography skills still need some work!).  I also added that glass jar to the mix (which you can't see very well in the picture but it is really cute).  I bought it at Slate Interiors on a recent trip to Charlotte.

2.  I was getting tired of always digging around for a pen/pencil.  So, I decided I needed a little pencil holder.  I just used a little jar that I had lying around and lined it with some leftover green scrapbook paper.  And voila...now I have a pencil holder.

3.  I rearranged the tray on my side table in the living room.

4.  My mini gallery wall.  After 3 months here, I finally managed to get some pictures hung up!

5.  A new mirror that I got on sale at GDC home

6.  I added a pink ikat bowl from Anthropologie to my nightstand.  I originally really wanted the blue one but all they had left were pink.  Now I am really happy with the pink.  I realized I didn't have pink anywhere in my place!  A little pink was much needed!

7.  I scored some white chevron towels from a World Market that was going out of business (I know...I gasped too when I saw that the store was closing...but I guess it was just a bad location???  Thank goodness they all aren't closing!).

8.  Some pretty fresh flowers that I picked up on my grocery run this week.  I love having fresh flowers around.

So, there you have it!  My little updates.  Happy Monday!!

over the weekend...

My new rug found a new home.
Before

After

Much better in my opinion!  I originally had the new rug in the dining room but it was a little too large for the space.  So, I moved it into the living room and it works so much better than the little rug that was in there.

I think I am going to use the old rug as an outdoor rug out on my porch in the future.  Right now my porch is condemned (the builder didn't build it to code) but it should be fixed soon...I hope.  It would be nice to use on days like we had this past weekend (75 degrees and sunny!).

This weekend I also bought this chiang mai dragon pillow from WillaSkye on Etsy after much thought (and after my BF telling me to quit debating and just buy the darn thing).  It is going on my bed and I can't wait for it to get here!!!

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

bedroom updates

my v-day flowers :)
I finally got around to taking pictures of the progress in my bedroom.  There is still a lot to be done but I figured I would share it anyways!  I got my prints up on the wall, found a matching lamp to my original one (at TJ Maxx), and got things set up the way I want them!

Remember that bar cart from awhile back?  Well, there really is not a place for a bar cart in my new place but I needed another bedside table and I thought it fit the bill.  I painted the table the same blue/grey as my accent wall.  (BTW I can't believe I bought that table back in September!  I am a little slow when it comes to projects sometimes!)  I hope one day in the future (maybe in my next home) I'll be able to put it to use as a bar cart.

I'm really happy with how things are coming along.  Some things I have left to do:  get an accent pillow for the bed, get curtains (my current ones are too short and I hate that), and find a mirror to go above my dresser.  I can't wait until the room is finished!
