Today's inspiration:  The Herschel Supply Co. Spring 2012 lookbook. Makes me ready for warm sunny days by the water.  It also has me thinking that maybe I can pull off a cropped top like the model.  I love her retro summer look.  Maybe?

refresh.

After having some time off, I am trying to get back into the swing of things as I start my new job this week.  Waking up early is not very fun when you have had the luxury of sleeping in for two weeks!  And even though I know it will all work out, I'm a little nervous as I start this new journey in my career.  Change can be a bit scary at times.

These photographs by Laure Joliet are so refreshing and they are just what I need to help me keep me grounded this week!

I am always amazed by the curated collection of old things in the everyeskimo shop.  The photography and staging of each item is absolutely beautiful.

Happy Friday.

the makers.

I am loving these photographs from Jennifer Causey's The Makers Project.  The project provides a glimpse into the people behind some amazing artisan-made products.  I especially love getting a sneak peek into the spaces where these creatives work.  Check out more of the project here.

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend!  It is now less than a week until Christmas!  I just can't believe it.  Today, I will be finishing my Christmas shopping, wrapping gifts, and picking up groceries for Christmas dinner.  Happy Monday!

book: freunde von freunden.

My sweet boyfriend had to do some traveling for work and brought me back this book from Berlin.  I absolutely love it!  I have been a fan of Freunde von Freunden, a online international interview magazine, for quite some time.  I was so excited when I heard they were coming out with a book.  Let me tell you, Freunde von Freunden's work is even better in print.  The book is filled with amazing photographs of glimpses into some creative people's homes and work spaces.  The book is written in both German and English and will be available in the US in mid-December!  I highly recommend this lovely coffee table book.  It would be a perfect gift as well!

Hope you had a great weekend.  Happy Monday!

king street.

I am so intrigued by these photos of Charleston's King Street from 1910.  I have walked down King Street a thousand times and never really stopped to imagine what life in Charleston might have been like just a hundred years ago.  I am so surprised at how the street is very much the same, yet totally different.  These photos make me want to travel back in time and experience Charleston in a different era.  I would love to stroll down the streets and admire all the men dressed in suits, watch the horse and buggies go by, and stop in the little "mom and pop" shops.  Wouldn't it be lovely?

happy.

I am blown away by these photographs by Max Wanger.  Each photograph seems to exude happiness in its own way.    I always love a little bit of happy to start the week :)

I had a wonderful weekend with the BF.   He actually surprised me and showed up early on Wednesday!  We spent the weekend trying new recipes, wandering around the farmer's market at Marion Square, eating at Cru Cafe, and just relaxing on the couch.

Hope everyone had a lovely weekend.  Happy Monday.

rustic + simple

I don't know why but I am loving by these pictures for EmersonMade.  Maybe because it is winter time and something about them is just so cozy.  It makes me want to have a relaxing weekend on a farm in the middle of no where with a gorgeous view.  Doesn't that sound nice?

two thousand and eleven

"Courage isn't about doing something you're not scared of. Courage is doing something in spite of the fact that you are scared of it."
What I learned in 2010:
In 2010, I made a big change and got a new job and moved to Charleston from Columbia, SC. I was really unhappy living in Columbia (although I loved my first job out of college and the wonderful people I worked with). But I knew that if I wasn't happy I should make a change. So, I got a job in Charleston doing what I loved in Columbia, surgical oncology nursing (BTW, I feel truly blessed that I found a path of nursing that I love right out of college).

Now I'm here 6 months later and I am much happier here in Charleston. Changing jobs was REALLY hard at first but I feel comfortable in my new job now. I have learned so much about myself and nursing as a career from this job change. Now, I know that as scary as it may be I can make a big career/life change and be okay! It feels really good to have made a big jump all on my own. It takes a lot of courage to make a big life change like that and not know if things will be better or worse in the end. I am proud of myself for making this big change. I am happier now because of it.

So, I have been doing a little bit of thinking about what I want to accomplish in 2011. I have come up with a list of things I want to do in the coming year. I'll start with the basics:
Career: Get my Oncology Nursing Certification. I hear it is a big stinker of a test but I think I can pass it!

Finance: Build up my savings account. I bought my car with cash outright a few months ago. I was really excited I could buy it without taking out a loan after just one year in the "real world" but now I want to build my savings account back to the pre-car buying state!

Health: Get in shape and run the Cooper River Bridge Run. Since moving to Charleston I have been really slack about exercising and staying in shape. It is time to get back into the swing of things!
Now for the fun things I want to accomplish in 2011:

Make my little apartment into a home that I love.

Go out and enjoy all that Charleston has to offer.

Take a photography class and use my fancy pants camera more.

Last but not least, I want to keep up with this little blog. I started this blog 6 months ago and it truly makes me happy. It is now my favorite hobby. I love finding inspiring things to post about and love getting new followers and comments. So, thanks for reading my little blog! Can't wait to see what 2011 has in store for us!

Mmm...amazing interior photography by Paul Costello. He is so talented. He does such a great job of capturing a glimpse into the life that goes on in a space. I think that is why I love his interior photography so much.

So much to do today...I don't think I've mentioned it but I'm moving this Sunday! I am so excited about my big move but so stressed about packing and all that jazz! Thank goodness I am off work until Monday so I can (hopefully) get everything done. Happy Thursday!
