captivated by: abstract nudes.

I love artwork and have collected a lot of beautiful art prints. I have not yet invested in an original piece of art though. I think a beautiful abstract nude would be a perfect first piece. These figure studies by Teil Duncan have been on my mind for quite some time now. I love the colors she creates with. I'm planning on putting my pennies together for one of these beauties.

weekly inspiration.

Hello again friends.  It's been awhile.  I still haven't found my blogging groove here in Nashville but I'm sure its just a matter of time. Here are some lovely things I have been inspired by lately...
This San Francisco studio space belonging to the Small Trade Company.

This lovely painting by Lauren Adams.

Beautiful paintings by Rebecca Silus.  Something about them just captures me.

details.

Such beautiful details in this home.  The perfect gray walls.  The gorgeously curated art collection. And I'm crazy about that interior door.  So simple yet just different enough from the average traditional door design.

Pretty ceramics by Object and Totem.  I especially love the speckled pieces.

make simple things.

I recently came across the Etsy shop beauchamping.  The store sells beautiful graphic art prints with positive messages.  I then watched this video on the shop's owner, Greg Beauchamp, on the Etsy blog.  The video really struck a chord with me.  I was really intrigued by this shop owner and his perspective on life.  I love this quote from the video: "by bettering yourself, everyone you come in contact with takes some of that, and they become better."

calligraphy.

I have always admired calligraphy.  I had a patient once who was a professional calligrapher.  She told me that she had taught herself this beautiful art.   Ever since, I have wanted to learn.  This calligraphy starter kit (just $35!) from LINEA CARTA seems like the perfect way to get started.

block printed.

While at the farmer's market at Marion Square this weekend, I came across Stacey Bradley's booth selling her PerlaAnne prints.  I have been a fan of her hand block printing since I saw her work featured in Charleston Home Magazine.   I was so excited to come across her booth and actually see the prints in person.  They are beautiful.  Stacey Bradley was so very kind and explained the hand block printing process and one of her hand carved blocks.   After looking through every single print (thank you Sean for being so patient!), I purchased a limited edition feathers print and meadow flowers print.  I am so very happy to add these prints to my little home.

friday favorites.

Today, I am feeling some bright colored artwork in some funky rooms!

Last night, I went on a ghost tour with friends around downtown Charleston.  It was so much fun.  Our guide was a little eccentric but that made it even more fun.  While on the ghost tour, we saw so many beautiful buildings and alleyways around Charleston that I had never seen or noticed before.  There is always something new to discover here!  One of the many reasons I love this beautiful city I live in.

Anywho, tonight and tomorrow night I am working the night shift.  I normally work all days but got put on nights for two nights to fill in some shortages.   I plan on getting LOTS of coffee before my shift later!  Hopefully I won't get too sleepy!

Happy Friday!

angel dormer

Obviously, when I got an email yesterday saying the new issue of Lonny was live I was ecstatic and immediately clicked on the link.  While perusing the pages I was absolutely mesmerized by the feature on Angel Dormer's home.  It has such personality.  I love the overall retro vibe.  And the artwork?  AMAZING.

monday...monday...

Monday already?!  I knocked out some holiday shopping over the weekend but I still have a few more things to pick up today :)  I can't believe Christmas is this weekend!  I know this week is just going to fly by...

I'll have some fun Christmas pictures up later this week but I have these pictures on my mind today.  I SO badly want a gallery wall in my little apartment.  I have a few pieces of art collected but not nearly enough to fill an entire wall!  That can be one of my goals for the New Year...collect enough artwork to make a gallery wall.  How is that for a New Year's resolution?

Happy Monday!

the perfect side table

Isn't this the prettiest little collection of items?  It creates the perfect side table in my opinion.  Let's go over the elements:  piece of artwork, fresh flowers, practical bowl to collect little odds and ends (or earrings in this case), a little reading material, and a little decorative something just to tie things together.  Just lovely.

painting

I came across this image and I just love the painting in this room.   It got me thinking...maybe I can paint something like that!  I've never really tried my hand at painting before but it could be fun.  Looks like I have another project to add to my ever growing list!

gallery walls

I think I've mentioned before that I am a huge fan of gallery walls...or just a display of several pieces of art in general.  I love seeing how homeowners/designers decide to display their art.  There are so many possibilities.  I've decided I like when the frames don't all match and they aren't lined up in straight lines (like these rooms above).  What do you think?  Do you like matching frames all perfectly lined up or a mix and match approach hung in a non-traditional way?
